Seeing and understanding different types of designs and what they can bring to the table is important when looking at various designs. I have found it really intriguing to compare different elements of design over the years because you learn so much by seeing examples, whether they are good or bad. I like to be inspired by fantastic designs and learn from designs that could use improvement. Gaining knowledge from unique designs is one of my favorite ways to learn.
A Pop of Color
Color allows for definition and grabs the attention of people. Creating a space where color can thrive is something that brings an inviting atmosphere to a design. Children are often attracted to color so toys, clothes, and even party decorations will be designed to draw a child in. This is an example of how color can be a powerful visual for a child to get excited. This colorful balloon art was designed with the intention of celebrating a student's first day of school. Remembering that design can be fun and colorful is an exciting part of the job.
Dominating Florals
Dominance is meant to show the prominence of a specific element. Flowers are such a beautiful aspect of design. In the example below dominance is pictured by the comparison of two flower vases. While they both are florals one completely outshines the other. From a design standpoint understanding what the vocal point is in this design is difficult to fully see. From a public relations point of view when comparing two very similar items it is not always the best bet to show a dominant design unless there is some form of competition being displayed.
The Minimal Slippers
Minimal designs is one vocal point with white in the majority of the space. When a minimal design is displayed it creates a sense of peace in my mind. I love it when white surrounds one thing in a design. This visual displays slippers surrounded by much white. It is a clean look that simply brings me back to the days I would dance after school. The colors on the shoes add a touch of color while plenty of bright white surrounds the vocal point of the slippers. Ballet slippers often symbolize hard work which is exactly what ballerinas do.
Getting Better at Messages
Messages, form and function is what the purpose of a design is typically written within the design itself. When I first started making graphics designs I struggled. This was one of the first designs I made on Canva for a client I had. While it is not horrible for first starting out I definitely could have used some major improvements. As I said earlier I learn from poorly done designs and am inspired by great ones! Just the statement "Reach out to us for Weed Control & Fertilization" does not grab the reader's attention. Plenty of better words could have been used to promote this service the company was trying to get business in. Thankfully a much improvement has now been made on
Unity has Power
Unity is when multiple different aspects are working together in a design for one whole look a design. This was a painting done by my mom, Tristy, who calls her business Red Wine Designs. Her abstract painting designs bring unity to her various lines, colors, textures, and shapes. She finds value in bringing out the best in each color and allowing different textures and shapes to complement the painting. This painting fits in well with the idea that unity allows for everyone to look at the big picture and then focus on the details within the design. I think paintings are a great way to see unique visuals because all paintings turn out to be different designs even if they are similar. As a PR professional, I value representing the best in my client and design because looking at the big picture is always wise.
